Spring 2014 Forum Review
On May 2nd, 2014, 35 participants of the Howe Sound Community Forum met at Gleneagles Golf Course in West Vancouver with three representatives from the Province to further explore the Cumulative Effects Assessment as a tool for Howe Sound planning. This is the third event where staff from the Ministry of Forests Lands and Natural Resource Operations participated. Staff recently involved in marine planning on the north coast are now involved.
This meeting on the request of the members attending January’s Forum was intended to be a vision and values workshop. In preparation, a compilation of values stated in existing local government plans, such as Official Community Plans, Strategic Management plans etc., developed through community input, was compiled and summarized. This quick compilation was conducted by Susan Abs of Eclipse Consulting and presented at the meeting. The term “Values” in these plans is used differently in the Cumulative Effects Assessment where important “values” are elements or components of the broader community Values.
The province is reviewing the community’s values and we now await their response and confirmation on the next steps on how we move forward with the Cumulative Effects Assessment for Howe Sound.
The agenda also included a review of the outcomes of previous Forums regarding Howe Sound planning where various stakeholders and Squamish Nation attended.
