Advancing the United nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs)
In September 2015, Canada and all other 192 United Nations Member States adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development at the UN General Assembly. This initiative is a global call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity by 2030. Read about the Global Goals here.
There are 17 sustainable development goals with over 100 associated actions. This inclusive approach toward a sustainable future ensures that no one is left behind, making everyone's contribution valuable.
All the SDGs are crucial, but those relating to the environment are at the foundation of them all. The Stockholm Resilience Centre present its SDG Wedding Cake as a way to illustrate how all goals either directly or indirectly relate to food or sustainability. It is the foundational goals #6 Clean Water and Sanitation, #13 Climate Action, #14 Life Under Water and #15 Life on Land that we must prioritize on to ensure Society and the Economy can be sustained for present and future generations.
How do actions within our biosphere region contribute to these goals?
We explore each goal and how organizations around our region are contributing towards the goals with commitments, initiatives and projects. Read more about some of the organizations at work on the SDGs here.
