Area D Director Tony Rainbow and Squamish Lillooet Regional District host the April 29th Howe Sound Community Forum for elected officials, staff, and invited observers. The meeting takes place at the beautiful Furry Creek Golf and Country Club located on the eastern shores of Howe Sound.
This Forum marks the 20th anniversary of signing the Principles for Cooperation by the Howe Sound Community Forum members in June 2002.
The meeting program includes a request to members to consider updates to the Principles for Cooperation that reflect changing times. Read the history of the Forums here. We will hear updates from the Squamish Nation and communities around the region and reports following the October 2021 Forum on Bowen Island from Ocean Watch Action Committee and the Howe Sound Biosphere Region Initiative Society. You can find notes from the previous Forum here.
Feature presentations include plans for Britannia Beach and Furry Creek communities within Area D and a review of projected growth for the entire region since 2016. As the tourism season approaches, we will hear from Destination BC, the Fire & Ice Sea to Sky Geopark, and the UNESCO Biosphere Region Ambassador program, all aimed at responsible and sustainable tourism. See the program here.
After the conclusion, there will be an optional tour of Furry Creek hosted by community members and the owners of the Furry Creek development.
