Fall 2019 Howe Sound Community Forum
On October 25th elected representatives, government staff and non-government organizations with an interest in the Atl’ka7tsem/Howe Sound region are coming together in the spirit of cooperation at the Cheakamus Centre north of Squamish. This forum is hosted by the District of Squamish on the traditional territory of the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw.
The program includes updates from the previous forum held April 26th hosted by the Gambier Island Local Trust Committee on Gambier Island at Camp Fircom and short presentations from Fraser Basin Council and West Coast Environmental Law.
More time will be allocated for updates from each member community and the Ocean Watch Task Force. Roundtable discussions on the topic of Climate Change will explore next steps for communities that have declared a climate emergency.
Following the conclusion of the Forum’s program a walk in the woods to an authentic longhouse and surrounding rainforest ecological reserve to learn more about the Centre’s Indigenous Cultural programs.
