World Oceans Day 2021 Celebrations
The United Nations designated a special World Oceans Day for celebrating the role of the oceans in our everyday life and inspiring action to protect the ocean and sustainably use marine resources.

The Sunshine Coast Conservation Association hosted a World Oceans Day Film Festival
The Blue Act Marine Society kicked off its 3rd annual Rockfish Art Festival and Auction that runs through June 20th.
The Pacific Science Enterprise Centre and Ocean Wise hosted an online workshop with special guest artist, Cease Wyss, about Squamish Nation traditional weaving and making connections to ocean science and conservation.
The Squamish River Watershed Society held a Wonder Walk in the estuary where the Rivers meet the Sea.
The Marine Reference Guide team celebrated Howe Sound/Átl’ḵa7tsem’s ocean and community with the launch of two interactive maps, videos, and stories from some of this region’s ocean champions. See the video below that reflects on the project’s journey over the past three years.
My Sea to Sky and a panel of judges announced the winners of the Howe Sound Art Challenge from 150 submissions of wonderful art done by youth in schools from around the Sound.
