Future of the Átl'ka7tsem/Howe Sound Biosphere Region

You are invited to help shape the vision for this region at the Future of Átl'ka7tsem/Howe Sound Forum, hosted by the Howe Sound Biosphere Region Initiative Society (HSBRIS).

Time: Saturday, November 5th from 9:30 am to 1:30 pm

Location: Great Hall, Gleneagles Clubhouse, West Vancouver

After receiving the prestigious UNESCO designation in September 2021, Átl'ka7tsem / Howe Sound Biosphere Region is now developing a management plan and seeking input on priorities over the next decade.

Participate in roundtables, receive important updates, and hear from visionaries in our community.

Forum attendees will include elected officials, First Nations and a variety of people from sectors and communities around Howe Sound who will engage and discuss the future of the Howe Sound biosphere region.

HSBRIS will share information on the Nchu’ú7mut/Unity Plan, a land and marine use plan that is being co-created by community stakeholders. Read the background here.

Consider the future of the region from the perspectives of our speakers:

  • Sxwíxwtn (sway-oh-k-tin), Wilson Williams, Spokesperson for the Squamish Nation

  • Barbara McMillan and Elaine McHarg, producers of the 2020 Vital Exploration Community Foundations Report on Greater Sea to Sky/Howe Sound

  • Bridget John and Courtney Smaha of the Átl'ka7tsem/Howe Sound Marine Stewardship Initiative.

This event is for people actively engaged in the region. Highly interactive roundtables will focus on questions about the long-term sustainable future of the region.
