Cumulative Effects - Howe Sound Pilot Project
In 2014, the Cumulative Effects Pilot project for the Howe Sound region began. The Howe Sound Community Forum members followed the project along from 2014-2019, receiving presentations from Jeff Juthans, Land and Resource Specialist, and colleagues from the Province of BC as the project progressed.
In 2019 reports were published and can be found here. This webinar follows the launch and completion of the pilot project. This webinar was a wrap-up to the pilot project for the Howe Sound Community Forum members. We now await the launch of the powerful online decision support tool Stewardship Baseline Objective Tools (SBOT).
The presenters were each Land and Resource Specialists with the Ministry of Forests Lands Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development.
Jeff Juthans provided a background on the origin of the Howe Sound Cumulative Effects Project and shared information about the five Cumulative Effects Value Reports, available here.
Monica Pearson, Land & Resource Section Head, Regional Initiatives Office in Surrey, explained the evolution towards more regional online monitoring and assessment tools (i.e. SBOTs) and their contribution to management & decision-making and provided the status of some new Provincial CE Protocols (i.e. Aquatic Ecosystems, Forest Biodiversity and Estuaries)
Veronica Villar-Singh, Project manager, provided a demonstration of Stewardship Baseline Objective Tools (SBOT) that will be available in 2021.
