Capilano University Summer Co-op Ambassador
Sophie Cheshire is a summer Co-op student with CapU’s Tourism/Outdoor Recreation Program. She began a research project on Sustainable Tourism and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the spring. Her research will continue through next year’s fall term.
With financial support from the Rotary Club of West Vancouver Sunrise, we are able to enhance Sophie’s work experience with tools, mentorship and immersion into the network of organizations in the Howe Sound region. She is learning firsthand about the value of the UNESCO Biosphere Regions.
Sophie, having settled on the North Shore four years ago from Australia, calls Canada home. After a 15 year career in the retail industry, she decided to pursue her love for the environment while utilizing her strongest skill sets. Some of her key values are fostering relationships and collaborating with local communities, sustainable development, environmental protection, supporting individuals to reach their goals, and using nature as a healer for mental health trauma and stress.
Read more here about her research project. Sophie is hosting workshops for outdoor recreation-focused tourism organizations about the UNESCO Biosphere Region. Follow Sophie as she posts on Instagram stories. See images below of the events and workshops that have taken place around the region.
